Why VivanTee - How did we start?

Written by: Cesar Figueroa

Now, before we dive into the heart of it, let's rewind a bit. Picture Arvada, CO – a cozy corner just a skip and a hop from the hustle and bustle of Denver. Back in the day, this was home. Blue-collar vibes, low-key neighborhoods, and a sense of community that's rarer than a hole-in-one...

Enter the Coast Guard – my ticket to a melting pot of experiences. Suddenly, I was surrounded by people from all walks of life, each one a vibrant stroke in the grand canvas of diversity. Philly, Staten Island, Alaska – you name it, I bonded with it. Our wardrobes were all completely unique, with no Insta feeds to dictate trends, we were all bringing a little flavor to the table, a symphony of styles that harmonized beautifully.

Fast forward to years later, time in NYC, and I jumped head first into golf after a few swings at 5iron.  Here's the truth: golf, with its velvety greens and serene landscapes, should be a sanctuary of acceptance. Yet, it often bears the weight of exclusivity, like a secret club with an unwritten dress code.  At VivanTee, we're on a mission – a mission to reshape this sport, infusing it with more new players, diversity, and self-expression. Whether you're rocking a kilt or a kimono, a turban or a top hat – your unique flair is your power, on and off the tee. In a world that sometimes feels like a sea of conformity, we're here to make waves.

...Here's to hitting 'em straight, chasing dreams, and being unapologetically you – on and off the fairway.

You might wonder, "Why the push for diversity in golf?" .  Diversity isn't just about shaking up the status quo; it's about enriching the game. When we bring people from all walks of life onto the green, we're not just adding new faces; we're infusing new perspectives, new stories, and a whole lot of fun, much like my experience in the Coast Guard.  When we say diversity, we don't mean race, but rather, not just affluent people who grew up playing the game, but an inclusive experience of people from all backgrounds.

Think about it – golf has often been seen as a bit of a one-note tune. But what happens when you mix up the rhythm? Suddenly, you've got a symphony. Diversity on the course means creativity, innovation, and a vibrant community where everyone feels at home. Here we discuss some of the trends that are helping shape the future of golf.  And let's be honest, who wouldn't want to be part of that party?

Now, onto the power of style. Ever noticed how slipping into your favorite outfit gives you an instant confidence boost? That's not just magic; it's psychology. When you express yourself through your clothing, you're telling the world, "This is me, take it or leave it." And on the golf course?

That confidence can be a game-changer.

That's where VivanTee comes in. We're not just selling gloves; we're offering you a piece of armor. Our designs blend high-quality materials with a flair that's straight out of a fashion playbook – think Louis V meets the fairway. Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned pro, we want our customers to wear our gloves as a statement piece: “I'm here to play, and I'm here to stay.”

We made the conscious decision to leverage our experiences across NYC, famous designers, art, and our versatile background to draw inspiration for our designs.  Each of our gloves is meant to embody a unique NYC neighborhood, and that neighborhood's style.  Wear a piece of urban life on your hand.  Embracing self-expression, fashionable flair, and diverse ethos of NYC.

Just to further highlight the points mentioned, check out some of these studies below that offer some line of sight into clothing and your emotional state.

Enclothed Cognition: Research suggests that our clothing choices can significantly influence our emotional state and behavior. This phenomenon, known as "enclothed cognition," indicates that wearing clothes that reflect the mindset we aim to embrace can positively affect our emotions and actions. For example, wearing formal business attire has been found to evoke feelings of competence and authority, altering our posture and influencing our cognitive processes, thereby enhancing our performance in various tasks.

Formal Attire and Cognitive Style: A study conducted by psychological scientists from California State University, Northridge, and Columbia University revealed that dressing to impress can enhance a person's ability to engage in abstract thinking. The researchers found that the formality of clothing not only affects how others perceive a person and how people perceive themselves but also significantly influences decision-making and processing style.

Impact of Formal Clothing on Abstract Processing: In a series of experiments, students were asked to rate the formality of their attire and then complete standardized tests to measure their cognitive processing style. Those wearing more formal clothing displayed a stronger inclination towards abstract processing, even after controlling for socioeconomic status.

Clothing and Negotiation Skills: A 2014 study found that participants who wore suits during a simulated biotech deal negotiation achieved better end results, securing more than $2 million more than casually dressed participants. This suggests that formal attire can significantly improve negotiation skills.

  • A significant 96% of women believe that what they wear affects how confident they feel

  • In a study, 51% of women reported wearing jeans when they felt sad or depressed, while only 33% wore jeans when they felt happy or positive

  • Another study found that 96% of participants reported a change in their emotional state depending on the style of clothing they wear

  • Colors like orange, yellow, and pink are top choices for helping people feel more energized and healthy

  • Wearing black sports gear has been shown to make teams feel and appear more aggressive in competitions

Impact of emotions on golf and how those new to golf can use clothing to play better

Before VivanTee, the golf glove scene was, let's say, predictable. You had your traditional white gloves and then the wild, out-there designs – shamrocks, dollar signs, you name it. But where was the elegance? The sophistication? That's what we wanted to create, a designer golf glove.

At VivanTee, we're not just creating gloves; we're crafting experiences. Each glove is a blend of tradition and innovation, a handshake between classic charm and modern boldness. And the best part? They're for everyone. Whether you're a millennial making your mark, a Gen Zer with a zest for life, or anyone who just wants to enjoy the game, any background, we've got you covered.

And when we talk about a luxury experience, we mean a luxury experience.  Our customers are our top priority and are treated as such, you are the center of what we build.  Which means, requests, service issues, anything, we are here to support our loyal customer base.
